Tattoo Aftercare

Every tattoo is a unique piece of art, and its final quality depends just as much on proper aftercare as on the tattooing process itself.

During the first few weeks, your skin begins its healing journey. This is when the details, contrast, and overall appearance of your tattoo settle into place. Following these aftercare instructions will help reduce the risk of complications and ensure your tattoo heals beautifully.

The First Day

After your tattoo is completed, a Tattoo Armour or other protective film will be applied.

  • Remove the Tattoo Armour according to the instructions provided at the studio.

  • Peel it off slowly and gently.

  • If it feels firmly attached, allow lukewarm water to run over it while removing it to avoid irritating the skin.

Once the Tattoo Armour has been removed, wash your tattoo using clean hands only.

Use:

  • Lukewarm water

  • A mild, fragrance-free and alcohol-free soap

After washing, allow the tattoo to air dry or gently pat it dry with a clean paper towel.

Do not rub the tattoo or use a fabric towel.

Moisturising

Before applying cream, allow the tattoo to dry for approximately 10–15 minutes or gently pat it dry with a clean paper towel.

During the first week, moisturise your tattoo 3–4 times per day.

After the first week, 1–2 applications per day are usually sufficient, depending on your skin.

When applying cream:

  • Apply only a thin layer.

  • Allow the skin to breathe.

  • It is better to moisturise more often with a small amount than to apply a thick layer.

  • Applying too much cream may slow the healing process.

Continue moisturising until your skin has fully healed.

Recommended Products

  • Bepanthen

  • Helosan

  • Professional tattoo aftercare creams

  • Any fragrance-free, alcohol-free healing moisturiser

During Healing

During the healing process, your tattoo may be:

  • slightly red;

  • mildly swollen;

  • sensitive;

  • dry;

  • itchy;

  • lightly peeling.

During the first few days, a small amount of plasma or excess ink may be released. This is completely normal.

While your tattoo is healing:

  • Do not scratch it.

  • Do not rub the skin.

  • Do not peel away any flaking skin.

  • Allow your skin to heal naturally.

Physical Activity

For the first two weeks, avoid intense exercise and heavy physical activity.

Excessive sweating, stretching of the skin and friction may slow the healing process and increase irritation.

If your tattoo is located over a joint, try to minimise movement during the first couple of weeks whenever possible.

Clothing

During the first few weeks, wear clean, soft and breathable clothing.

Avoid tight clothing or anything that causes unnecessary friction against the tattoo.

Sun, Swimming & Heat

For the first two weeks, avoid:

  • Direct sunlight

  • Tanning beds

  • Swimming pools

  • Lakes and the sea

  • Saunas

  • Hot tubs

  • Hot baths

Once your tattoo has fully healed, always apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen whenever it will be exposed to the sun.

Consistent sun protection helps preserve the sharpness, contrast and beauty of your tattoo for years to come.

Alcohol

If possible, avoid drinking alcohol during the first two weeks after your appointment.

Alcohol may affect your body's natural healing process and slow skin recovery.

Sleeping

During the first few nights, sleep on clean bed linen and avoid unnecessary friction against your tattoo.

Whenever possible, avoid sleeping directly on the tattooed area.
